Back in Osaka
Ten months after our last Japan trip we were back, this time for Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s four main islands. It starts in Osaka: two nights in Namba before we pick up a car.

Bags dropped at Quintessa Hotel, and out for a walk.

Lunch at Matsuyoshi Daihanten
Lunch was ramen at Matsuyoshi Daihanten, a clear, salty broth with chashu. ¥1,600 for two.

Doguyasuji
Then Sennichimae Doguyasuji, the kitchenware street. It’s all knives, pots, plastic food samples and takoyaki pans. Walls of knives.

A melon pan with green tea ice cream inside (¥600), and back to the hotel for a rest.

We also came back with new glasses from Megane Ichiba. Japanese opticians are fast: you pick a frame and they’re ready the same day.

Dotonbori at night
Evening in Dotonbori. Sausages and roast chicken at a stall first, and bread from Mahoroba for the next morning.

And the canal, as bright as ever.

Takohachi
Dinner at Dotonbori Takohachi, where they cook at the teppan in front of you: takoyaki, yakisoba and okonomiyaki. ¥4,620 for two.

Onward to Kuromon Market!
