Luna Park
After a morning of croissants and street art, we headed down to St Kilda, Melbourne’s seaside suburb. You can’t miss Luna Park: the entrance is a giant laughing face, and you walk in through its mouth. It’s been there for over a hundred years.
Next to it is Acland Street, famous for its old cake shops, with windows piled high with cakes, tarts and pastries. Very hard to walk past.

Yo-Chi
Our sweet stop was Yo-Chi, a self-serve frozen yoghurt place. You pull your own yoghurt from the machines, then go wild at the toppings bar. Pricing is by weight, so this is where self-control is tested. We failed.

The Brighton Bathing Boxes
From there, a short train ride down the bay to Brighton, then a walk to Dendy Street Beach and the Brighton bathing boxes: a long row of little wooden beach huts, every single one painted differently. Stripes, rainbows, pastels, bright reds and blues.

We timed it for the late afternoon, which turned out to be perfect. The low sun lit up all the colours, and we went from box to box taking turns posing in front of each one.

Then the sun went down right over the bay, and everyone on the beach stopped to watch.

Dinner was Korean: a bubbling stew and a spread of banchan. Perfect after a cold evening on the beach.

Tomorrow was a 4:30am start, for a hot air balloon over Melbourne.
