Kamakura is great for trains. In one morning, we did two very different ones.
The Hanging Monorail, Again
First, the Shonan Monorail from Ofuna down to Enoshima. Like the one in Chiba, it hangs under the rail, so it swings around corners above the roads and houses. The front seats have the best view, sort of like a slow roller coaster.

The Enoden
At Enoshima, we switched to the Enoden, a little old train that has run along this coast since 1902. It’s 10 km from Fujisawa to Kamakura, partly through people’s backyards and partly right along the sea.

The Crossing
We got off at Kamakura-Kokomae. Right by the station is the level crossing from the opening of Slam Dunk: the railway, the road, and the sea behind it. It’s a pilgrimage spot now, and even at 9:30am there were already people waiting for a train to come through for the perfect shot.

It was already damn hot by 9:30am. The breeze off the sea helped a little.

Back on the Enoden, a few stops on to Hase for the Great Buddha and Hasedera.
Information About the Slam Dunk Crossing
The level crossing right by Kamakura-Kokomae Station on the Enoden line, with the sea behind it. It's in the opening of the Slam Dunk anime, so it's always busy.
