The infinity pool
After the 3am start, we needed a slow morning. The Udaya’s infinity pool looks out over the jungle, and we had it nearly to ourselves.

Lunch at Pison
Lunch was at Pison, a big café in town, a short Grab from The Udaya. Gelato first, because we’re on holiday.

Then iced coffees, a doughnut and a proper lunch.

Out the back, a stone statue looks over its own little rice field.

The Sacred Monkey Forest
Then the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a short walk away at the south end of town. The monkeys find you before you find them. Entry was Rp 100,000 each. They sit on the boardwalks, the railings and the statues, and they don’t care about you at all, unless you have food.

The forest itself is beautiful: moss-covered stone, temple gates and huge old trees.

And more monkeys, getting closer every minute.

We kept our sunglasses in the bag and left with everything we came in with. Small win.
Then a massage at a place near the Monkey Forest, because the 3am start was catching up with us.
Seeds Eatery
A coconut break at Tukies Coconut Shop on the way back.

Dinner was at Seeds Eatery, with a garden at the front and a menu heavy on seafood.

Fresh oysters on the menu, a seafood soup and salads on the table.

Bed early again. Tomorrow: the rice terraces.
Information About the Monkey Forest
A forest of temples, moss-covered statues and giant trees at the south end of Ubud town, home to hundreds of long-tailed macaques.
PS: Keep sunglasses, hats and anything loose in your bag. The monkeys grab first and ask questions never.
