Into town
After settling in, we headed into Ubud town, about 10 minutes from The Udaya. The road out passes right by the rice fields, and every second house has a temple gate.

First stop, Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung), right at the main crossroads. It’s free to walk into the courtyard, and it’s the easiest landmark to meet at if you split up.

Then a slow wander down the market street and the side lanes. Stalls, offerings on the pavement, and a dog guarding someone’s front gate.

Seniman Coffee
Coffee break at Seniman Coffee, an Ubud roaster. We got a tasting flight: an iced black, a kopi susu and something called a Trans X, plus a bottled oat latte.

Dinner at Sun-Sun Warung
Dinner was at Sun-Sun Warung, a small Balinese place up a flight of stairs through a temple-style gate, at the end of a narrow lane.

We ordered the big platter: blue rice in the middle, sate lilit, corn fritters, tempeh, peanuts, sambal and more, all on banana leaves. Plus a watermelon juice each. A proper welcome to Balinese food.

An early night after that, because tomorrow’s alarm was a crime.
