Kanazawa is on the Sea of Japan, and the seafood is the reason a lot of people come. So breakfast was at Omicho Market, Kanazawa’s kitchen for about 300 years.
The Market
We got there at 8am, when the stalls were still setting up and the covered lanes were quiet. Fish, crabs, vegetables, pickles, and the odd coffee stand.

Morimori Sushi
We weren’t even looking for sushi. We just walked past Morimori Sushi, a conveyor-belt place inside the market, and thought, why not. It was 8:30 in the morning and it was already full house. Wth? There’s a ticket machine at the door: take a number, and it tells you roughly how long you’ll wait. We took one and walked around. Only about 15 minutes, in the end.

Inside, you can grab plates off the belt or order from the screen. Everything is local fish from the Sea of Japan, and the cheapest plates are as good as the expensive ones back home.

On the way out, a croquette, still hot.

Then back to the station for a quick trip out to Fukui, to tick off another original castle: Maruoka Castle.
Information About Omicho Market
Kanazawa's kitchen for about 300 years, a covered market of fish, vegetable and food stalls, about 15 minutes' walk from the station.
PS: Morimori Sushi gets a long queue. Take a number from the machine at the door as soon as you arrive, then walk the market while you wait.
