Through the pipe
Super Nintendo World works on timed entry, and our slot came up at 10. We’d bought Power-Up Bands, the wristbands that let you collect coins around the land (¥8,400 for two).

You walk in through a green pipe, and come out in the Mushroom Kingdom. The music, the colours, Peach’s Castle on top: it is ridiculous and we loved it.

Punching blocks
All around the land there are question blocks you jump up and punch, and your band collects the coins.

Mario Kart in Bowser’s Castle
The big ride is Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge, inside Bowser’s Castle. The queue goes through the castle itself.

It’s a mixed reality ride: you wear a visor, steer, and throw shells at Team Bowser. Team Mario won, obviously.

Toad, Yoshi, Mario and Luigi
Out again into the land. Toad was everywhere.

Lunch was a Yoshi bun and a drink (¥1,500).

Then Mario and Luigi came out for a walk.

More coins
We kept going, punching every block we could find.

The app keeps score of every coin and stamp, and shows how you rank against everyone else in the park that day.

Onward to Hogwarts, our second one this trip!
